Vista House Open for Halloween!

Just for fun – and maybe to appease its resident ghost – Vista House will be open for Halloween from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.

Volunteers from Friends of Vista House, the recently disbanded Volunteers in the Gorge and Oregon State Parks will gather at the Crown Point visitor center to hand out cider, coffee and candy to visitors.

“We thought we’d try it since Halloween falls on Saturday night this year and people are apt to be out later,” said Vista House Spokeswoman Sally King.

King added that there is no guarantee that Edgar, the resident ghost, will be present. But even if he is, she said, “He’s not troublesome, kind of friendly and fun.”

The Saturday evening party at the historic site also will give volunteers a chance to meet over a potluck dinner.

David Mysinger and a few others, along with Oregon State Parks officials, will remain in the building through the wee hours to protect it from vandalism.

Volunteers in the Gorge, of which Mysinger was a member, has disbanded because Oregon State Police no longer have the staff to supervise the group. However, Mysinger said he and others would try to keep watch over Vista House as much as possible.
